As a full time collector and dealer of autographs for over 30 years, with 15 of those on ebay! We have learned a lot about how to spot the real from the fake. Some of this we have been able to pass on to others via our one day courses, which in turn has allowed us to learn from those that have attended the courses.
Many dealers specialise in one or more areas, and no one dealer can be considered an expert in all fields. Autographs is a huge field to gain expert knowledge in, but it is possible to learn how to spot most of the fakes and forgeries that abound on sites such as ebay and the fancy websites selling just about every name that exists at prices that are always below their true market value.
There are so many things within autographs that can trip you up, Autopens, printed signatures of all types, die stamped signatures, simple forgeries, and just plain old confidence tricksters. Our Muhammad Ali guide helps you to spot the real signed items, and will allow you to buy certain Muhammad Ali items in the knowledge that they are authentic, without the need to ask anyone else.
The guides here will not make you an expert, but if you can learn to spot some of the tricks used by some to fool you, and gain some knowledge on the way, then one day you may end up with a collection you can be both proud of and one which will rise in value as well.
We try and update these guides as often as we can, but things change, ebay certainly changes almost on a daily basis, so what may be correct today, may not be quite so correct tomorrow. Always remember that the con man is always trying to stay ahead of the game, and that his only aim is to part you with your money! Sometimes the con man does get caught though, here is one example and they are not always con men either!
